Women's Soccer: 2008 Season Wrap-up

The Women’s Soccer Team finished this fall season with an overall record of 5-12-1. Although the record may not show all of the triumphs that the team had throughout the year; it was a step in rebuilding. The team started this season with seven straight losses but by mid season the Lady Cougars were competing with teams that were at the top of the region. This includes a game where the lady cougars tied the Region III Bracket A winner Jefferson Community College 1 - 1. The team continued to grow and succeed and ended the 2008 season with a win against conference rival Jamestown Olean 3-0.

The team also accumulated many individual achievements this season as well. Jenna Ferrando lead the team this season with 11 total points which included 3 goals and 5 assists. She was named Region III 2nd Team All Conference and Western New York Athletic Conference 1st Team. Britany Buscaglia was another big contributor for the team this year putting in 4 goals and 2 assists. Buscaglia was also named to the WNYAC 1st Team. Three other Lady Cougars also were named to the 2nd Team WNYAC: Alesha Amend, Gina DiPonzio, and Valerie Rosart.

The team also had many contributions from its stellar freshman class and is looking to continue to grow these individuals for next season. Coach Gillow feels with maturity and poise these young ladies will be a fantastic nucleus for the 2009 fall season.
