Men's Baseball Opener

On Sunday, the men’s baseball team split their first game of the year with Monroe Community College in the Western New York Athletic Conference opener. In game one, the team gave up four runs in the first inning on two errors. The team also left a man on third base in the top of the seventh inning losing the first game 8-7. Genesee out hit Monroe 11-10 in the slug fest. For Genesee, Mike Hackett (Pavillion) was 2-2 with a double and Ryan Sharpe (ON, Canada) went 3-4.

In game two, Jason Champ (ON, Canada) picked up the win allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks allowed. Genesee was strong again offensively with nine runs on eight hits. Mike Hackett again hit well going 2-4 and Shayne Herold (LeRoy) went 2-4 with a double to lead Genesee to a 9-4 victory.

“I was very impressed with the way our team played after giving up all 8 runs in the first three innings of the first game. We settled down as team and played very well after that. Both teams hit the ball very well.” Coach Sherman.

The Cougars play again this Thursday at Genesee Community College in a scrimmage against the Buffalo Inferno team, then travel to Brock University on Friday. The team will play its first game at Dwyer Stadium on Saturday September 13th against a club team from Canada. On Sunday September 14th , they will continue play in the WNYAC traveling to Jamestown for a double header.
