Lady Cougars Seeded No. 1 Heading Into Regional Tournament

The Lady Cougars enter the Region III Tournament as the No 1 seed, following a 21-4 regular season (9-3 in the WNYAC). They also earned a first round bye with their seeding and will play the winner of the Erie CC-Mercyhurst NE game on Saturday March 1, 2008 at 4pm at the Burt Flickenger Center in Buffalo. If victorious, the Lady Cougars will advance to the Region III championship game, which will be held at the same location on Sunday March 2, 2008 at 1pm. All regional action can be heard live on the home of the Lady Cougars, 90.7FM WGCC.

The Lady Cougars, nationally ranked No. 9, are first in team offensive and defensive averages in Region III Division II. They average 75.2ppg and allow a mere 51.2ppg. As a compliment to the team’s depth, seven players on the Lady Cougars average over 7ppg, with Ariel Smith (Wallkill, NY) leading the way with 10.5ppg. Captains, Latoya Anderson (Bronx, NY) and Quiana Holman (Bronx, NY), each contribute 9.2ppg and 9.6ppg respectively. Freshman Brittany McCray (Lyons, NY) has had a tremendous first season, averaging 7.8ppg and 7.4rpg, and she leads the team in field goal percentage with 49.6%.
