Swimmers and Divers Place Second and Fifth in Region III Meet

The Genesee Lady Cougars placed second in the Region III Northeast District Championships while the men placed fifth.

Key performers for the women’s side included Sarah Barr (Middleport, NY) placing first in the following three events: 200 yard individual medley, 200 yard backstroke, and 100 yard backstroke. Barr earned Region III Northeast District Swimmer of the Year after this outstanding performance, which followed successful conference meets and a broken record in the 100 yard backstroke. Captain, Alissa Andrews (Mexico, NY), came in third in the 200 yard butterfly and sixth in the 500 yard freestyle. Marie Bowen (Middleport, NY) finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke. Bobbie Jo Passamonte (Corfu, NY) placed first in the 400 yard individual medley and third in the 500 yard freestyle. Jenn Turner (Batavia, NY) placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle. Diver, Lindsey DiMartino (Batavia, NY), placed third in one meter diving and Laura Trompeter (Irondequoit, NY) came in right behind her with a fourth place finish.

The men had strong performances from Chad Brooks (Albion, NY), Ricardo Jimenez (Brooklyn, NY), and Mark Sullivan (Horseheads, NY). Brooks finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke and placed third in both the 200 yard backstroke and 200 yard individual medley. Jimenez placed sixth in the 200 yard breaststroke. Sullivan placed third in the 400 individual medley and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle.

Coach Scott Hunsinger who led this team to second and fifth place finishes was also honored. Coach Hunsinger was named Region III Northeast District Coach of the Year.

The swimming and diving teams will head to Indian River, FL to compete at Nationals from March 5 to March 8.
