September Employee of the Month at Genesee Community College

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Dolores Chiocco has been selected as the Employee of the Month for September 2007. Dolores coordinates a series of events and activities for disabled people in the community through the DD Recreation and Living Skills program. She has persisted through many obstacles to ensure the continuation of the program.

Dolores recruits and supervises credit students and community volunteers, arranges supplies, deals with space issues, and coordinates program enhancements. She has been persistent in reaching out to the various supportive living agencies for cooperation in transporting and monitoring their students. The students in Genesee’s Adaptive PE class are Dolores’ helpers for this program and its activities.

Prior to beginning at Genesee, Dolores taught Physical Education in a number of schools throughout New York State. She began teaching at Genesee Community College in 1968, teaching health and physical education courses as well as serving as program director of the Credit Free Program for Special or Challenged Individuals. She has also coached women’s field hockey, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and softball.

“I like the small community college atmosphere at Genesee,” Dolores said. “I have a good relationship with students, athletes, and graduates and I enjoy having the ability to contact faculty and staff to assist students with their goals.”

Over the years, Dolores has guided many students’ careers and interests through her work with the DD Recreation Skills program. In addition to her work at the college, Dolores enjoys camping and fishing, and spending time at her great niece’s soccer, basketball, and softball games.
