Batavia, New York — With the new year, new volunteer leaders are at the helm of the Genesee Community College Foundation. In late November, the Foundation’s Board of Directors elected Brian M. Daviau of Batavia to serve as Foundation President. Mr. Daviau succeeded LeRoy’s Robert L. Boyce, who served three one-year terms as president. Mr. Daviau is a retired accountant and controller.

Elected First Vice President was Todd J. Bender of Batavia. He succeeds Mr. Daviau, who held the First Vice President office for three years. Mr. Bender is Co-Founder of the Ignitor Group.

Both Mr. Daviau and Mr. Bender are graduates of Genesee Community College. Mr. Daviau is a member of the Class of 1981, while Mr. Bender hails from the Class of 1989.

Other officers for 2016 include Dr. James M. Sunser, of Pembroke, Second Vice President; Les Cole, of Livonia, Treasurer; and Thomas R. Turnbull of Batavia, Secretary. Dr. Sunser serves as Genesee Community College President; Mr. Cole is CEO of Commodity Resource Corporation; and Mr. Turnbull is CEO of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce.

Newly-elected board members include Janice Barrett of Avon, Jason Beck of Perry and Jerome Pawlak of Albion.

The Genesee Community College Foundation builds philanthropic and volunteer support for Genesee Community College. Among its many activities, the Foundation funds scholarships and grants for more than 300 students each year; operates College Village, the College’s student residence for 455 students; sponsors a program of alumni outreach and activities to Genesee’s 24,000+ graduates; and funds innovative programs at the College.

Since late 2013, the Foundation has sponsored Creating Our Future Together, a comprehensive fund raising campaign to support the construction of the College’s new Student Success Center and Events Center, and create new endowed scholarship funds serving students living in communities served by the College’s six campus centers. The campaign has raised about $5.3 million to date, and although the Foundation has completed formal campaign activities, gifts in support of the campaign are still welcome.

The Foundation Board is comprised of leading civic and business leaders, all volunteers, who guide the Foundation’s fund raising programs, endowment funds, and stewardship activities, and who serve as advocates for Genesee Community College.
