Experts to Offer Financial Aid Assistance

Scholarship Funds Available During Special Sessions at GCC Warsaw and Dansville Campus Centers

Warsaw, NY- If you want to apply for college financial aid, but don’t know where to begin, help is available at Genesee Community College. In conjunction with College Goal NY, GCC Campus Centers in Warsaw and Dansville will offer free expert help filling out the online FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms. In addition at each campus center event, five participants will receive a $500 scholarship.

The event at GCC Warsaw is organized in conjunction with the Wyoming County YMCA, located adjacent to the Campus Center at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw. It’s scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 4 - 8 p.m. “Completing the FAFSA form online for the first time can be a bit complicated, and we are here to help students and their families through this very critical first step of the college experience,” Patty Chaya, associate dean of the Warsaw Campus Center said. “In addition to federal and state funds, GCC has many scholarship opportunities available – which we are happy to help students understand and apply for.”

The event at GCC Dansville is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2015. People can stop in Room 213 any time from 4 - 8 p.m. This is the second year the Dansville Campus Center has hosted the event. “We had a great event last year and hope to have an even bigger and better event this year,” said Amy Churchfield, associate dean of the Dansville Campus Center. GCC Dansville is located at 31 Clara Barton Street in Dansville.

In order to receive all of the federal aid to which a student is entitled, the student must complete the FAFSA form. Financial aid counselors from GCC will be on hand at each event to help high school seniors and adults complete the forms online. Participants are asked to bring essential information, including social security numbers, birth dates, driver’s licenses and most recent income tax returns. College Goal NY offers a checklist of what to bring here: http://collegegoalny.org/get-started/how-to-prepare.
