Batavia, New York - Genesee Community College is pleased to recognize achievements of its students at the annual Student Awards Banquet to be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 5 - 9:30 p.m. in the William W. Stuart Forum.
This is the 25th year for the event which recognizes a variety of student achievements, among them:
•Genesee Community College Board of Trustees Award for academic achievement, leadership
and service to the College community
•Outstanding Leadership Award presented by Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board
•Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence
In addition, many awards will be handed out for specific involvement in activities such as Cougarettes, Athletics, WGCC, Forum Players Theatre Ensemble and Residence Life.
For the first time this year, students will be recognized for these achievements on their individual Merit page. GCC has recently begun utilizing Merit, a software utility through which each student receives a web page where they can track their achievements and activities at GCC. Once the College grants an achievement on its main Merit page at genesee.meritpages.com, individual students receive an email notifying them of their recognition. They can then claim that achievement and share it with others in their social network.
“We’re always delighted to recognize students for their hard work and success,” said Cliff Scutella, GCC Director of Student Activities, which organizes the Awards Banquet. “Doing this through Merit makes it even more exciting, because it expands the student’s ability to track and share what they’ve achieved.”
Tickets to the Student Awards Banquet are $5 each and are available until May 7, 2014 in the Students Activities office located in the Wolcott J. Humphrey III Student Union on the GCC Batavia campus.
