The sixth-ranked Genesee Community College men’s lacrosse team got its highest offensive output of the season on Saturday to improve to 4-2 on the year with a 28-2 victory over visiting Hudson Valley Community College.
Genesee scored nine times in the opening quarter including a hat trick from Tyler Godfrey. Chris Lommer added two goals and the Genesee defense held Hudson Valley to just one shot on goal in the first frame.
The Cougars extended their lead to 15-0 halfway through the second quarter before HVCC broke through with its first goal of the game at the 7:45 mark.
Godfrey added two more goals for GCC before the end of the first half, and Genesee was in control at the break, 20-1.
Dylan Jonathan scored the lone GCC goal in the third quarter to make it 21-1. Before the afternoon was over, the Cougars netted seven more goals in the fourth, allowing just one goal to HVCC. Dennis Alton cashed in his first career collegiate goal and Lommer converted two more to up his total on the afternoon to four goals.
In all, 16 different Cougars scored at least once on Saturday. The 28 goals is a school record for most goals in a game at GCC.
Genesee will return to action at home on Wednesday against Niagara County Community College. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
