The sixth-ranked Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team ended a three-game road stretch on Wednesday night by beating no. 8 Monroe Community College 15-11.
Tyler Skowronski netted the game's first goal off of an assist from Josh Wester to put the Cougars in front 1-0 less than two-minutes into the game.
The Tribunes then scored back-to-back goals to take the lead, but it was short-lived as Tyler Godfrey scored twice and Doug Ellsworth added a goal to end the first quarter scoring and give GCC a 4-2 lead heading into the second.
The Cougars extended their lead to 7-2 in the second with goals from Godfrey, Nick Gray and Dana Ray, but MCC stormed back with the half's final six goals to take an 8-7 lead into the break.
Godfrey tied the game at eight apiece early in the second half with his second goal of the game and then Genesee got goals from Ray and Skowronski to take a 10-8 lead late in the third. MCC scored its lone third-quarter goal with five-minutes left to get to within 10-9, but Ray scored his third and Jimmy Smith netted a goal to put GCC in front 12-9 heading into the fourth.
Monroe got to within one goal less than five-minutes into the final period, but Genesee scored the last three goals of the game to earn the win.
Skowronski, Godfrey and Wester all finished with four goals each. Gray added three assists and a goal, Ray finished with three goals and Smith chipped in a goal and an assist.
Craig Seneca made 13 saves in net for Genesee (3-2), which will return to action at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Hudson Valley Community College.
