No. 6 Men's Lacrosse gets road win at Howard

The no. 6 Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team traveled to Howard Community College on Thursday afternoon and bounced back from a loss against SUNY Delhi last weekend to beat HCC, 6-5.

It was a back and forth game all afternoon. Howard took a 1-0 lead at the 9-minute mark of the first quarter, but Mitch Kinney tied it with a man-up goal less than a minute later.

HCC took back the lead just two minutes later and the score remained 2-1 Howard until less than 30-seconds left in the first half. Jesse Jimerson came away with a takeaway and a clear and found Josh Wester who set up Dana Ray with the game-tying goal. Howard responded quickly and just over 10-seconds later scored to take a 3-2 lead into halftime.

Tyler Skowronski tied things at three for GCC early in the second half but HCC regained the lead with a goal five-minutes later. Genesee then ended the third quarter scoring two straight goals with Ray adding another and Wester netting one, and took its first lead of the afternoon heading into the fourth.

Howard quickly tied it at 5-5 less than a minute into the fourth quarter and the score remained that way until Kinney scored his second man-up goal of the game with 6-minutes left to put the Cougars in front for good.

Craig Seneca made 17 saves in net for GCC including one with 5-seconds remaining.

Pete DiLaura was 4-11 on face-offs and had nine takeaways and six ground balls. Johnny Astrologo had six takeaways and three ground balls and Jimerson finished with seven ground balls and four takeaways.

Genesee (2-1) will continue its road trip on Saturday at no. 2 Community College of Baltimore County-Essex. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
