Women's Basketball Travels to Mercyhurst for Region III Opening Round

The Cougars will travel to Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday night for the sole sub-regional matchup in Division II Region III women’s basketball.
Genesee (5-20, 0-8) is the No. 5 seed and lost both regular season matchups to the Saints this year. 
Mercyhurst (16-10, 4-4) is the No. 4 seed and the Saints ended the year winning six of its final seven games.
Last time out:
Genesee dropped an 82-28 contest in its regular season finale on Feb. 20 to Monroe Community College. Dashawna Jenifer led the way with 11 rebounds and eight points. Breana Gleaton chipped in eight boards and seven points and Shanell Glover added six points. GCC was held to just eight points and three field goals in the second half.
Mercyhurst defeated Jamestown Community College at JCC on Feb. 22, 78-68. The Saints out-rebounded the Jayhawks, 43-29.
What to watch for:
Genesee averaged just 37 points per game against Mercyhurst this season.
Terra Clanton was the only Cougar to reach double figures in scoring against the Saints this year, scoring 12 points in the Feb. 6 matchup.
The winner will advance to the Division II Region III Semifinals this weekend and play the host team and No. 1 seed, Niagara County Community College.
The last time GCC advanced past the opening-round of regionals was the 2010-11 season.
The Cougars have fallen in two straight sub-regional road games.
