Batavia, New York - It’s not too late to take a class this spring at Genesee Community College. Among the wide variety of ‘late start’ courses are more than a dozen online, and numerous on-campus classes including Introduction to Engineering offered at the Batavia Campus, which also provides a $200 scholarship opportunity for students not currently enrolled in a program at GCC.
The one-credit Introduction to Engineering (EGR100) course introduces students to the array of engineering disciplines including mechanical, biomedical, civil, environmental, chemical, computer, electrical, aerospace, nuclear and architectural. Under instructor Ronald Schumacher, students explore the pathway of engineered products from invention to manufacturing to selling, and witness how computer-aided drafting (CAD) is required in all engineering disciplines. The course meets just one day per week, Wednesdays, March 17 through May 10 from 1:25 – 3:25 p.m. in room D362.
The EGR 100 Scholarship provides a $200 award to cover the cost of tuition for students who are not currently enrolled in the Engineering Science program at GCC, but will be enrolling in the very near future. To apply for the EGR100 Scholarship, complete the online GCC Foundation scholarship form available at: http://faculty.genesee.edu/schol/page1.php. Deadline for application: March 10, 2014.
“An engineering degree opens doors of opportunity to great careers in nearly every industry,” Ron Schumacher, GCC’s instructor of engineering said. “This eight week session with the scholarship opportunity is perfect for students who are interested in this vast career arena, but may not be sure where to focus or if they are engineering-oriented.”
