What:Civil War Lecture Series Features Presentation at Albion Campus Center

Background:
It’s a landmark located in the first Orleans County historic district to be named to the National Register of Historic Places. On Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 7 p.m. learn more about “The Civil War Tower in Mt. Albion Cemetery.” Orleans County historian Bill Lattin will present a history of the Tower as part of Genesee Community College’s Civil War Initiative Spring Lecture Series. This talk will be at the Albion Campus Center of GCC, located at 456 West Ave., Albion, NY 14411.
Made of Medina sandstone the tower, known as the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, stands 58 feet high. It’s dedicated to the 463 Orleans County men who perished in the Civil War (1861-1865). Lattin will highlight the challenges faced by those who built one of the most unique commemorations of Civil War valor.
