Cougars Swimming and Diving to Compete in Regionals this Weekend

Nine members of the Genesee Community College swimming and diving team will compete in this weekend’s Region III/District Tournament at Monroe Community College, with competition beginning on Friday and running through Sunday.
Men’s breakdown:
Jason Williams will swim the 50 yard freestyle as the second seed. The Northeast District record for the event is 21.45 and the NJCAA record is 19.06. Williams’ seed time is 24.25 and the top seed time in this weekend’s meet is 23.31. He will also try for the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard butterfly as the fourth seed in both events.
Williams will be joined by Justin Popp, Randi Rudnik and Dakota Spink to compete in the 400 yard medley relay, the 200 yard medley relay, the 800 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay. The group will swim as the fourth seed in all relay events.
Popp will also compete in the 500 yard freestyle (7th seed), the 200 yard backstroke (5th seed) and the 1650 yard freestyle (4th seed). Rudnik will swim as the fourth seed in both the 400 yard IM and the 200 yard breaststroke and as the third seed in the 200 yard butterfly. Spink will represent Genesee as the lone diver and try for the 100 yard freestyle as the 11th seed.
Women’s breakdown:
Miah Stevens, Holly Barnes, Sarah Kennedy and Melanie Kinbaum will combine to swim in three relay events. They will compete in the 200 yard freestyle (5th seed), the 800 yard freestyle (4th seed) and the 400 yard freestyle (4th seed). Nikkia Frongetta will join Stevens, Barnes and Kennedy to compete in the 200 yard medley relay as the 5th seed.
Stevens will add the 200 yard freestyle to her weekend (3rd seed), as well as the 100 yard backstroke (7th seed) and the 100 yard freestyle (4th seed). Barnes will try for the 200 yard IM (5th seed), the 200 yard freestyle (4th seed) and the 100 yard freestyle (6th seed). Kennedy and Frongetta will both compete in the 50 yard freestyle as the 13th and 14th seeds respectively, Frongetta will also try for the 100 yard backstroke as the 12th seed and the 200 yard backstroke as the 7th seed and Kennedy will go for the 200 yard freestyle as the 7th seed. Melanie Kinbaum will also try for the 200 yard freestyle as the 10th seed and she will swim as the 7th seed in the 500 yard freestyle.
The competition will begin on Friday with Prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Saturday’s schedule will remain the same and Sunday’s Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. with finals starting at 3:30 p.m.
