The Genesee Community College men's basketball team will begin a three-game road strech on Thursday night at Western New York Athletic Conference rival, Mercyhurst North East.
Genesee (18-6, 3-3) is looking to improve its conference record to above .500 for the first time since starting conference play, 1-0. The Cougars are currently outside of the NJCAA Top 20 National Poll, but received votes this week.
Mercyhurst North East (14-5, 3-4) has won its last two contests, both of which came against WNYAC opponents.
Last time out:
The Cougars had their Feb. 4 game against Jamestown Community College-Olean cancelled. No makeup date or resolution has been announced at this time.
The Saints defeated Erie Community College at home on Jan. 30, 98-87. Three players scored 20 or more points for MNE, led by Devonte Isom who scored 22. Damon Jones and Soutri Sapnas added 20 points apiece.
What to watch for:
In the first meeting this season, GCC defeated Mercyhurst N.E., 101-94. Ervin Mitchell scored a game-high 37 points for Genesee, including 15 out of 18 attempts at the free-throw line. Naquil Jones added 21 points for the Cougars, who out-rebounded the Saints, 48-32.
Mercyhurst is 7-1 at home this season and Genesee holds a 4-4 record on the road.
