The Genesee Community College women's basketball team is still in search of its first conference win of the season after falling to Erie Community College on Thursday night, 54-46.
The Cougars shot just 21% and managed only 18 points in the first half, but kept the game close by forcing seven turnovers and out-rebounded the Kats, 30-15.
The Kats began the game 4-4 from the field and got out to an 8-2 lead.
Dashawna Jenifer scored 11 first half points for GCC, which had no other scorer record more than two points during the first twenty minutes.
After falling behind by as much as 16 in the second half, Genesee got back to within six with 4:30 left to play. The Cougars got two quick baskets from Hillary Rivera to cut the Erie lead to 45-39.
The Kats responded and ended the game on a 19-6 run to earn its first conference win of the season.
Jenifer led the way for GCC with 13 points and she also grabbed eight rebounds. Breana Gleaton recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and collecting 14 rebounds, Rivera added eight points and nine boards, Shanell Glover scored six points and collected nine rebounds and Macey McCulley had nine rebounds and scored four points.
Genesee falls to 5-13 overall and 0-4 in Western New York Athletic Conference play. The Cougars will return to action next Thursday at home against Niagara County Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
