Lady Cougars look for first Conference win at Niagara

Coming off of a low-scoring conference opening loss to Mercyhurst North East, the Genesee Community College women’s basketball team will look to rebound against Western New York Athletic Conference rival #19 Niagara County Community College on Thursday night.
Genesee (5-10/0-1) is in search of its first conference victory since 2/25/12.
Niagara (18-0/ 0-0) climbed into the NJCAA National Poll for the first time this week at no. 19. Thursday night will be the first WNYAC contest of the year for the Lady Thunderwolves.

Last time out:

Genesee managed just 11 field goals in the 46-36 loss to Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday night. Dashawna Jenifer led the team with nine points and 18 rebounds.
Niagara defeated Pitt-Titusville 75-58 to end its non-conference schedule and improve to 18-0 this season.

What to watch for:

Genesee’s last conference victory came against the Lady Thunderwolves on February 25, 2012 at Niagara.
The Lady Cougars collect an average of 49.9 rebounds per game, the seventh best average in the country.


Niagara holds an average of 47.8 rebounds per game, 16th most in the country.
Leading scorer Jaclyn Welch (18.3 ppg), is the 27th leading scorer in the country. Kristine Ripson (17.2 ppg) and Jesse DeWaters (11.9 ppg) also average double-figures for Niagara.
