Batavia, NY- Decisions, decisions. We make thousands of them every day. What to wear, what to eat, which task to tackle first? But it’s the life defining decision of which path to pursue, the expected or the unknown, that guides the narrative in Jerrol Newell’s new book “The Intermittent.” Newell is an adjunct professor of Philosophy at Genesee Community College. The book is self-published through Xlibris. It’s his first published work.
“The Intermittent” is the story of Danny Gables, a just-turned 30, intelligent, yet underachieving adult wavering between boredom and the desire for meaning in life. Gables decides to begin a quest for authenticity that turns other elements of his life upside down. Described as “cynical yet droll, rich in sarcasm and brute truism, ‘The Intermittent’ proves to be a lesson in existentialism.”
“’The Intermittent’ is best read with intention,” says Newell “along with an awareness of the sardonic humor that creeps in every now and then. But ultimately it ought to be approached with a reflective disposition.” The book is available in paperback or hardcover at Amazon.com, at Barnes & Noble and as an ebook.
A native of Attica, NY, Newell studied theology and philosophy at Ohio Wesleyan University, Barton College in North Carolina and the University at Buffalo. He’s participated in theater at GCC and has performed at the past two GCC Homecoming events with his band, “4 Dead Trees” which released its latest CD in September.
Newell is married to GCC Dean of Students Jennifer Newell. They have two daughters, Katie and Sarah.
