Fashion Professor Receives Special Honor

Rick Dudkowski Inducted into Personal Best Hall of Fame

Batavia, NY- Longtime GCC Fashion Professor Rick Dudkowski has received a special honor from a woman who’s supported the College’s successful fashion program for many years. Susan Makai, owner of Susan Makai’s Personal Best Model and Talent Agency in Cheektowaga, inducted Dudkowski into her Hall of Fame. He was recognized for his years of support in Marketing Individual Excellence in a Competitive World. The induction took place on December 15, 2013 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens during Makai’s annual holiday luncheon, fashion show and auction to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York.

Dudkowski joined the GCC faculty in 1984. He has twice been recognized for excellence in teaching and scholarship with two SUNY Chancellor’s Awards. Many students benefit from his industry connections, such as Susan Makai. She is a long-time member of GCC’s Fashion Advisory Committee. “Over 30 years I have sent dozens of students to attend her agency/school to enroll in model and talent courses,” Dudkowski said. “She has presented seminars on our campus to help students look their best and develop self-confidence. Our students have benefited from her coaching and several have attended and competed in the IMTA (International Modeling and Talent Association) competition.”

Dudkowski says Makai has also helped students prepare for the annual GCC Spring Fashion Show, a gala event that has become the largest fashion show in Western New York. Under Dudkowski’s guidance the student-produced show has a professional look and feel. “[Susan] has awarded scholarships to our students who are modeling in our annual fashion show.”

This year’s show “Ethereal” is set for Saturday April 26, 2014. It will feature clothing designed by GCC Fashion Design students in addition to a special trunk show of merchandise from Buffalo David Bitton Jeans in New York City. The annual show attracts more than 1,500 people each year.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Susan, who has helped our program tremendously,” said Dudkowski, who lives in the town of Clarence. “Our students have benefitted greatly from her instruction on becoming your personal best.”
