Ervin Mitchell scored 36 points on Sunday afternoon and helped the Genesee Community College men's basketball team to an 86-68 victory over visiting St. John Fisher JV.
The Cougars held just a five point lead late in the first half but used three straight, three-point plays to extend their lead to double-digits. Mitchell scored 20 of his 36 in the first half and GCC did all of its damage inside the arc, scoring 48 first half point inside of three. Genesee led by 20 at the break.
Fisher got back to within 13 midway through the second half but GCC kept it's distance and cruised to the win. Mitchell also recorded six steals and five rebounds in the game. Naquil Jones added 10 points and 12 rebounds, Alastair Cole chipped in 11 points and Redell Freeman scored 12 points and added five assists.
Genesee improves to 2-2 overall and will return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Houghton College JV.
