Dashawna Jenifer scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the first half on Wednesday night and helped the Genesee Community College women's basketball team to an early lead, but a strong second half from visiting Mohawk Valley Community College was too much and GCC fell, 70-57.
Genesee opened the game on a 12-0 run, taking advantage of a slow MVCC start from the field.
A 30-24 GCC halftime lead quickly vanished as Mohawk Valley began the second half on a 21-5 run and held a 45-35 lead halfway through the final period.
Genesee got back to within nine late in the half, but could not draw closer, falling by 13.
Jenifer led the way with her second double-double in as many games. She finished with 11 rebounds to go with her 17 points. Renetta Fordam added 13 points and eight rebounds, Shanell Glover scored nine and had eight boards and Breana Gleaton added nine rebounds and eight points.
Genesee falls to 0-3 and will return to action on Thursday night when they host Onondaga Community College at 7 p.m.
