Volleyball comes up empty at Grand Rapids

The Genesee Community College women's volleyball team matched up with three teams ranked in the top ten of the NJCAA National Poll this weekend at the Grand Rapids Community College tournament, and come up winless in four attempts.

The Lady Cougars began the weekend on Saturday against no. 3 Oakland Community College and fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-17). They then faced no. 8 Grand Rapids Community College and again fell, 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-17). On Sunday, GCC began the day against no. 10 Muskegon Community College and lost, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-21). Genesee ended the weekend against Schoolcraft College and dropped its final match, 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-23).

Lindsey Thomas ended the weekend with 12 kills and eight digs, Michelle Nagle tallied 23 kills and 11 digs, Andrea Pursel added eight kills and seven aces, Leyinska Quiles-Torres had 13 kills, five aces and 19 digs, Chelsea Gerace added 22 digs, Stephanie Maddox chipped in 31 kills, eight aces and 10 digs, Nohema Garcia-Torres finished with 79 assists, five aces and 11 digs and Brittany Besser tallied five digs.

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Finger Lakes Community College for a 6 p.m. start.
