'There's No Place Like GCC'

Alumni Celebrated at Homecoming 2013

Batavia, NY- Follow the clock tower back to Genesee Community College September 27-28, 2013 for the fourth annual Homecoming Celebration, There’s No Place Like GCC, a Cougar Pride event. Enjoy music, classic cars, Cool Kids and much more. Events begin at 6 p.m. Friday September 27, 2013 and continue through 10 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013. The weekend includes the induction of this year’s Athletic Hall of Famers and the Cougar Reunion Mixer Saturday night in conjunction with Batavia Rotary’s Oktober Brew Fest.

Homecoming 2013 kicks off Friday evening, September 27 at 6 p.m. with the women’s Alumni Soccer Game. The men play at 7:45. At 7 p.m., enjoy music in the Forum by Dead Trees, a band that includes GCC alumni and adjunct faculty. From 8 p.m. through midnight America’s #1 Party Band, Nik and the Nice Guys takes the stage. The high energy mainstream rock and roll band features 12 multi-talented musician-performers, including Les Femmes de Nik dancers and the Niktones hot horn section. Tickets are $5. Admission for GCC students is free.

On Saturday, tune in for alumni broadcasts all day on WGCC 90.7 FM. Join Cool Kids in the Forum for family fun beginning at 10 a.m., including inflatables, Balloon Man and face painting. At noon, classic cars, trucks and bikes fill the parking lot for a Cruise at the College with DJ Dennis P, and a tailgate party precedes the afternoon soccer matches. The Cougars take on Erie Community College. At 5 p.m., GCC’s Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome its newest members during a ceremony in room T119 of the Conable Technology Building on the Batavia Campus.

The celebration weekend concludes with the Cougar Reunion/Mixer from 7-10 p.m. in downtown Batavia in conjunction with the Batavia Rotary’s Oktober Brew Fest. A German band will provide live entertainment. Registration is $20 per person and includes a commemorative glass, unlimited beer and wine tasting, munchies and a Homecoming t-shirt. Five dollars of every ticket sold through GCC goes to the GCC Foundation for student scholarships. Online registration is available at http://www.genesee.edu/alumni/homecoming/register.cfm. In the near future Paula Savage, who graduated from GCC in 1976 will also be featured. She is the President of the International Peace Garden Foundation and she recently won the Torch-Bearers Award medal for her efforts to promote international friendship and understanding. The ceremony recognizing her efforts was at the United Nation’s Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on April 12, 2012 in New York City and marked the beginning of the World Harmony Run.
