Volleyball wins two in season-opening Tournament

The Genesee Community College volleyball team took two out of three matches at the Nassau Community College tournament to open the 2013 season this Saturday at Nassau CC.

In their first match, the Lady Cougars downed Onondaga Community College 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21). Leyinska Quiles had 16 assists, 12 digs and six kills, Michelle Nagle tallied 16 kills, Nohema Garcia recorded 28 assists and three aces and Chelsea Gerace finished with 10 digs and three kills.

In match two, GCC downed Nassau Community College 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-10). Quiles finished with 15 kills and nine assists, Stephanie Maddox added 11 kills, six digs and three aces and Brittany Besser chipped in 12 digs.

In the final match, Genesee fell to Niagara County Community College 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 16-25). Andrea Pursel recorded 16 digs and nine kills, Gerace added 23 digs and Maddox tallied 11 digs and seven kills.

Genesee (2-1) will return to action on Friday when they travel to the Owens Community College Tournament at OCC.
