Francis Tabbed Conference Athlete of the Year

Dominic Francis, a starter at forward the past two seasons for the Genesee Community College men’s soccer team, was recently named the 2012-2013 Western New York Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Year.
Francis set the single-season scoring mark during the 2012 season for the Cougars, netting 27 goals in 19 games. That mark was the second highest at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III level this season.
The Huddersfield, England native was a Second Team All-American as a freshman and a First Team All-American this season as a sophomore, and scored 39 goals during his two-years at Genesee.
Francis helped lead the Cougars to a National Championship game appearance in 2011 and a school record 17 wins during the 2012 campaign. He was a two-time All-Region and All-Conference player and was the 2012 Region III Player of the Year.
“Dom is a hard working player who does his talking on the field,” said head coach Ken Gavin. “It has been a pleasure to watch Dom grow over the past two years and he will be greatly missed next year.”
Francis will attend Slippery Rock University in the fall and has received a scholarship to play soccer. He will join former members of the GCC men’s soccer program, Joe Agerskow, Declan Brennan and Josh Gray at Slippery Rock. The Rock competes at the NCAA Division II level.
