Batavia, NY- The Multicultural Communications Club at Genesee Community College is pleased to initiate a new award to be handed out annually to top club members. The Anthony T. Zambito Communications and Leadership Award is named for the late Anthony T. Zambito, a long-time GCC trustee and community college advocate. The winners will receive the award at the 24th Annual Student Awards Banquet to be held Friday, May 10, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. in The Forum on the GCC Batavia campus.
The award will be given to two Communications Club members, one International Student and one U.S. Student, who have demonstrated exemplary communication and leadership skills. The Club has attracted nearly two dozen members since it began in March 2011. “Students have really picked up on this club because it’s a great way to enhance an essential skill, the ability to speak well in front of others,” said Club Co-advisor Jacqueline Di Bella, adjunct professor of Humanities at GCC. “We are grateful to the Zambito family for supporting us in offering this award to students. Anthony Zambito often came to speak with our students and staff about communication and leadership. This is a great tribute to the legacy he left here at GCC.”
Mr. Zambito owned and served as Manager of the Rochester office of Dale Carnegie Institute, the world famous communication and leadership organization. He was an advocate for community colleges across the nation and was well known for 34 years as Trustee of Genesee Community College where he served until 2000. On May 11, 2000 the Trustees dedicated the College's Physical Education Facilities and Gymanisum to Mr. Zambito. Through this award, a new generation will continue to know Mr. Zambito’s legacy and passion for communication and leadership and his commitment to excellence.
