Genesee Community College invites the community to the Opening Reception of the annual Digital Art Student Exhibit THIS Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Rosalie “Roz” Steiner Art Gallery on the GCC Batavia Campus.
This year’s show features fine art digital prints, graphic design, and video. The visual communication and packaging design pieces are all original works by GCC Digital Art students.
Genesee's Digital Art program emphasizes the role of computer technology in creative expression. “Students are prepared to embrace changing technology and acquire all the skills needed for the modern work environment,” said Gallery Manager and GCC Instructor Shirley Tokash Verrico. Assignments require students to effectively combine art, design and technology to communicate ideas and sell products in today's fast-paced world. The pieces demonstrate skills in animation, digital video, graphic design and web design, as well as more traditional techniques like photography and drawing.
Students gain further “real world” experience through internships with local businesses and the student design group AppleCore. Program graduates can secure entry-level positions in agencies specializing in graphic design, multimedia, web development and digital illustration.
The exhibition opens May 2 with an Artists’ Reception at 12:30 pm. The Community Reception is set for Friday, May 3 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please visit the Roz Steiner Gallery web page at http://www.genesee.edu/gallery.
