High School Seniors Invited to Explore the Arts at GCC Dansville

The new home of Genesee Community College in Dansville offers an exciting opportunity for students interested in the arts.

Batavia, NY- The new home of Genesee Community College in Dansville offers an exciting opportunity for students interested in the arts. GCC Dansville, which recently moved into the old Dansville Middle School at 31 Clara Barton St., now offers Fine and Performing Arts courses. The facility features an outstanding auditorium and attendant space conducive to performing arts, as well as art studios for painting, drawing and ceramics. High School seniors and other interested visitors are invited to check out all the opportunities at an Open House on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 5 – 7 p.m.

The Dansville Campus Center relocated in summer of 2012 under a ten-year lease with the Dansville Central School District. The renovated building includes a 550-seat auditorium, which GCC Dansville has moved quickly to utilize. Livingston Arts will present a reading of John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” in the space on April 19 and 20, 2013 at 7 p.m. (Cost of admission is voluntary with proceeds benefitting the New Deal Gallery and Livingston Art Center.)

“We see tremendous opportunities to use this space as a community gathering place and a cultural hub for this region,” said GCC Dansville Associate Dean Pete Soscia. “We’re excited to add fine and performing arts courses to the variety of academic programs we have for our students.” Members of GCC’s Fine and Performing Arts faculty will be on hand at the April 17 Open House to discuss the new program offerings at Dansville Campus Center, and share information about the many careers related to the creative arts and creative thinking. Students can also learn about GCC’s more than 60 other degrees and certificates.

Besides the auditorium, the new Dansville Campus Center features art and ceramic studios, modern science labs, cafeteria and a gym. The old school library has been transformed into a new student lounge, Clara’s Commons, named after American Red Cross founder Clara Barton. She established the first chapter of the Red Cross in the village of Dansville where she had a home.

The Open House will include a campus tour, information about Financial Aid, and GCC’s many scholarship programs. For more information, contact Marketing Communications Associate Director Donna Rae Sutherland at (585) 343-0055 ext. 6616, or via email: dsutherland@genesee.edu.
