The #5 Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team faced an early season test on Saturday night and welcomed #6 Monroe Community College to town.
Coming off of a dominant win against Herkimer County Community College, the Cougars continued their hot start by defeating Monroe, 15-6.
The Tribunes broke through first with a late first quarter goal to take their only lead of the game. Jon Gill answered for GCC with two goals to end the opening frame to give Genesee a 2-1 lead after one.
The Cougars took control of the game in the second quarter with five goals to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
GCC upped their lead to 12-5 after three quarters and added three goals in the fourth to earn the victory.
Mike Breindel went 15 of 24 on faceoffs in the game and Brady Lawrence made 10 saves in net.
On defense, Jordon McElligott had seven takeaways and five ground balls and also added a goal. Pete DiLaura had four takeaways and five ground balls.
Gill finished with five goals on the night and one assist. Christian Reiller added six points with three goals and three assists and Marcus Palvino added two goals and three assists.
Genesee improves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday for a 4pm start.
