The Genesee Community College baseball team finally got to play after having 8 games cancelled due to weather. The team is in Myrtle Beach, SC and started their play with a win over Macomb CC today, 10-5.
The team scored five runs in the fourth and five runs in the ninth to beat Macomb.
Shakeel Newton had two hits and scored twice. Sean Sutton, Brandon Collins, Zack Ranta, Ramon Vega and Ryan DiMartino all added hits for the team.
Malick Mitchell led the Cougars on the mound, pitching six innings with 11 strikeouts and allowing only one walk. Brandon Stagg and Eric Vallalobos also pitched with Stagg getting the win on the hill.
In the eigth inning with the scored tied 5-5 and one out; Jacob Kenney started the five run inning with a walk followed by another walk to Newton, and then Sutton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brandon Collins came through with a double to score two runs. Zack Ranta followed with a two run single. Dre Celestijn later scored in the inning off of a hit by Ramon Vega.
Eric Vallalobos entered the game and faced three batters striking out the last hitter to give Genesee the win.
The team is 1-0 and will play again on Monday with two games starting at 4pm.
