Items will be recycled at GCC's 8th Annual Earth Day Celebration

BATAVIA, New York—Genesee Community College welcomes the community to “Get ‘Er Green On!” at the 8th annual Cool Kids ECO-Fest on the Batavia Campus on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10 am - 2 pm. This fun-filled, educational event aims to increase awareness of important environmental issues while celebrating Earth Day. The event is free and open to the public. The first 250 people at ECO-fest will receive free tree seedlings to plant.

Both indoor and outdoor activities will be happening throughout the four hour event, which winds down with the Eco-Raffle of great green prizes, including the grand prize, a 21-speed mountain bike provided by Batavia’s Adam Miller Bikes and Toys. (You must be present to win.)

Cool Kids! ECO-fest is brought to you by Genesee Community College’s Student Activities Office, College Village and Cool Kids!, a program of Brockport-based Generation Cool, www.generationcool.biz. Cool Kids! brings fun, interactive, FREE programs to GCC each month. Cool Kids! ECO-fest 2013 will feature more than 50 exhibitors, exotic wildlife, make-it take-it activities and opportunities to recycle items you often don’t know what to do with. These include:

•E-Waste or electronics such as old computers, monitors, calculators, TVs, VCRs, stereo equipment, video games, and microwave ovens (No other kitchen appliances, please.)
•Old rubber sneakers
•Paperback books for American troops overseas
•Worn American flags for proper disposal by Sheppard, Maxwell and Hale
•Old cellular phones are donated to the YWCA’s Domestic Violence Program
•Inkjet and laser ink cartridges
•Old eyeglasses

The more items you bring for recycling, the more raffle tickets you receive, the better your chances of winning the mountain bike.

Also this year, Sloat Tires will again be on hand with their Inflation Station. Those who get their tire pressure checked will receive a free air gauge. Keeping tires properly inflated reduces fuel consumption and increases the life of tires.

“ECO-fest has helped keep thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills,” said Cool Kids’ Steve Appleton. “This is huge! This event does so much good and the best part is, it’s fun and it’s FREE! We look forward to another great crowd on April 13th. Let’s do our part to celebrate the earth!”
