Former Medina Mayor Will be Honorary Chair of GCC Encampment

Army reservist Adam Tabelski recently returned from Kuwait

Medina, New York—Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Adam Tabelski will be the honorary chairman of the Civil War Encampment to be held April 26-28, 2013 at the Medina Campus Center, 11470 Maple Ridge Road, Medina, NY 14103.

Tabelski, 33, is communications director for State Sen. George Maziarz (R-Newfane). He is also a member of the National Guard and just returned in December from a 9-month deployment to Kuwait where his unit provided security at Camp Patriot, a U.S. Naval Base. Before he left, he stepped down as mayor of Medina, a position he’d held since 2008.

“We’re really excited Adam has agreed to be the honorary chairman of our event,” said Medina Campus Associate Dean Jim Simon. “He is a true public servant who will add greatly to the Encampment.”

Tabelski is a past president of the Medina Historical Society and this spring will earn a Master’s Degree in Public History from SUNY Albany. “The Civil War has been a centerpiece of my interest in history over the years,” Tabelski said. “Being just a small part of bringing this event to fruition in Medina is humbling.”

Tabelski and his wife Rachael live in Medina with their 1-year old son Adrian.

The three-day Civil War Encampment at the Medina Campus Center will feature authentic soldier costumes, Union and Confederate camps, a Saturday morning parade through downtown Medina, and many other events throughout the weekend.
