Indian Dancers to Perform at GCC

High Energy Show is Free and Open to the Public

Batavia, NY- Genesee Community College will welcome the group Geneseo Bhangra to the Batavia campus on Friday, February 22 for a 6 p.m. performance in the central Forum. The event is free and open to the public.

Geneseo Bhangra is a competitive Indian dance team from SUNY Geneseo. The high energy dance is derived from the Punjabi culture of Pakistan and India. It was originally a celebration of harvest, but is now commonly performed at weddings and competitions. In festive, traditional garb, Geneseo Bhangra delights audiences with a show that is visually appealing and rhythmically infectious.

The group’s performance at GCC is sponsored by the College’s Global Education Committee and Student Government Association. Committee member Nina Mortellaro secured the performance after seeing Bhangra. “People will love this show,” Mortellaro said. “You can’t help but be drawn into the joy of the performers as they share a cultural tradition.”

The Geneseo Bhangra team travels throughout upstate New York. They’ve competed in Buffalo, Syracuse and Ithaca. The group calls itself a team full of “love, energy and craziness.” They have a lot of fun together.
