BATAVIA, New York –Students and community members alike are invited to auditions for a production of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath at Genesee Community College’s Dansville Campus Center. GCC Dansville is located in the former Dansville Middle School, 31 Clara Barton St., Dansville, NY 14437. Auditions are set for Tuesday, February 19th and Thursday, February 21st at 7 pm.
Published in 1939, The Grapes of Wrath won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. As one scholar notes, it “may well be the most thoroughly discussed novel—in criticism, reviews, and college classrooms—of 20th century American literature.” The story follows the Joad family who flees Depression-era Oklahoma in search of a better life in California, only to face further challenges.
Dansville Campus Associate Dean Peter Soscia is excited to be hosting this Livingston Arts production. “This is a great opportunity for the community and the college to come together,” Soscia said. “The Grapes of Wrath is an American classic and has a variety of parts for all ages. We look forward to showcasing some great area talent.”
Those interested don’t need to prepare anything for the audition. They will be asked to do some basic choreography. Questions can be directed to Livingston Arts Director Chris Norton at (585) 243-6785.
Performances of The Grapes of Wrath at the Dansville campus are set for April 12, 13, and 14, 2013.
