Blood Donors Can 'Be a Sweetheart'

Genesee Community College's Warsaw Campus Center has a unique opportunity to celebrate Valentine's Day: ‘Be a sweetheart - Give Blood.’

Batavia, New York — Genesee Community College’s Warsaw Campus Center has a unique opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day: “Be a sweetheart - Give Blood.”

The GCC at Warsaw, together with Unyts, will host a blood drive from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m. at the Warsaw Campus Center on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th, 2013. GCC’s Warsaw Campus is located at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw, New York.

To give blood for transfusion to another person, the donor must be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the last 8 weeks (since December 21, 2012). “Healthy” means that a person feels well and can perform normal activities. If a person has a chronic condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, “healthy” also means they are being treated and the condition is under control. In addition, there is a one-year waiting period to donate blood for those who have tattoos or body piercings.

Unyts is a leading organ procurement non-profit serving the eight counties of Western New York. Unyts reports that each donation of whole blood has the potential to save the lives of up to three patients. So this Valentine’s Day Be a Sweetheart…Give Blood at the Warsaw Campus Center.
