The Genesee Community College men's basketball team picked up a win on Sunday afternoon, the third win in a row for the Cougars, against Niagara College (Canada), 90-81.
After earning a road win against Cayuga Community College on Friday, Genesee was able to avenge a December loss to the Knights by coming back from as much as a 13 point deficit in the first half.
Niagara hit five early three-pointers and jumped out to an early 30-18 lead. Genesee was able to close the gap and a last-second E.J. Blackwell three-pointer cut the Knights lead to six going into the break.
GCC began the second half on an 11-1 run and took a 50-46 lead about five minutes in. Vaughn Boler put together eight straight points during a critical stretch late for the Cougars, and helped put away Niagara.
Donte Meredith again played well for Genesee, scoring a game-high tying 24 points. Boler also scored 24 points and added seven rebounds, Blackwell finished with 19 points and nine assists and Terryl Coombs grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and also added 17 points.
Genesee improves to 9-5 on the season and will begin Western New York Athletic Conference play on Thursday when they travel to Erie Community College.
