BATAVIA, NY – A free health fair developed and managed by the students and faculty of Genesee Community College’s Nursing program is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Forum of the Batavia Campus. Local residents are invited to this free event to not only gather important information about cutting-edge healthcare needs, treatments and diagnostic developments, but also enjoy learning preventive tips for maintaining healthy lifestyles.
The program provides the opportunity to learn about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), street and designer drugs, tattoo and piercing, cold and flu prevention, weight management and diabetes, healthy nutrition in pregnancy, alcohol use and depression and sexual health. Nursing students will also perform free blood pressure screenings.
“GCC Nursing program organizes this health fair to not only give our student community the opportunity to understand the health and wellness needs of our college and local community, but also potential new students have the chance to explore fantastic career opportunities offered here,” Catherine Wall, RN, MS, WHNP-BC assistant professor of Nursing said “We host this event every semester and it is always very well received.”
The topics being presented are most applicable for adults and young adults, from teenagers through to senior citizen populations. Some of the information may not be suitable for children.
