Batavia, New York — There is a twinkling light at the end of the holiday tunnel, and yes, a train is coming! The Genesee Community College Foundation is busy preparing for Encore 2012, the annual holiday gala that supports student scholarships, and community members are all invited to “Climb Aboard the Encore Express.” The festive train leaves Tuesday, December 11, 2012 and all passengers will enjoy the Gala Reception with the melodious music of the two-time Grammy Award winning Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO), which will be performing in the Stuart Steiner Theatre at the College’s Batavia Campus.
Encore 2012 not only features excellent holiday music, but the visual arts are also part of the evening’s festivities. Guests will have the opportunity to see the latest artwork of Alfred University Assistant Art Professor Dale Inglett in the new Rosalie “Roz” Steiner Art Gallery. Inglett’s Transient Beings exhibit includes large-scale canvasses, drawings and videos that examine both the connections and the divisions between the mind and body. The Roz Steiner Gallery will be open for the entire evening and Mr. Inglett will be attending Encore as well, allowing guests to meet the artist.
The BPO will once again be conducted by renowned conductor, Paul Ferington. Mr. Ferington, hailed as a distinguished local guest conductor, is in his 28th year on the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s conducting staff. During this time, he has conducted the BPO in more than 400 concerts. A guest conductor and recital accompanist nationally and internationally, Ferington has received the Beaux Arts Award for Contributions to the Arts from the Niagara Council of the Arts, the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the OperaBuffs of Western New York Educator of the Year Award. In addition to conducting, he is on the music faculty at Buffalo State College and serves as conductor/music director for the new college-community Buffalo State Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Encore Express starts its journey at 5:00 pm with a private Prelude Reception with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra conductor, Paul Ferington as well as artist Dale Inglett. This reception is open to all Conductor and Engineer level sponsors. For all guests, the Encore Express Station Reception featuring sensational food selections, begins at 6:00 p.m. in the William W. Stuart Forum. An Encore Guest Conductor Chance drawing to win the opportunity to be a BPO Guest Conductor will be held at 7:30 p.m. Guests will then proceed to the Stuart Steiner Theatre for a holiday pops concert at 8:00 p.m. Afterward, passengers stroll back to the Forum to enjoy the Caboose Dessert Finale.
Chairpersons for Encore 2012 are Dan and Debbie Fischer, residents of Oakfield. They bring a wealth of community involvement to Encore through their active ownership of WBTA Radio and their commitment to service. “There is no greater gift that a community can give to its young people than a quality education,” Mr. Fischer said. “We are pleased and proud to be a part of this year’s Encore celebration.”
Proceeds from Encore support the Genesee Community College Foundation Scholarship Fund. The Foundation would like to recognize Five Star Bank, the lead corporate benefactor, for its continued support of Encore. The Foundation is also grateful to Dr. and Mrs. Michael (Sharon) Kubiniec for their sponsorship of the Prelude Reception and to Mr. Peter Zeliff of Innovative Energy Systems, Inc. for sponsoring the cocktail bar.
