Genesee Men's Soccer new No. 1

For the first time this season, there is a new team at the top of the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer National Poll.
Genesee Community College (16-1) is the new number one team in the country, moving past Herkimer County Community College according to the latest National Poll. The Cougars defeated Herkimer, who held the top spot all year, 2-1 in their final regular season game last week and trade places with the Generals, who fall to No. 2.
This marks the second time in school history and the second time in two years that GCC has been ranked number one in the country. They earned the top ranking going into the NJCAA National Tournament last November, advancing to the National Championship game before falling to Herkimer, 4-1.
Genesee is currently on a 15-game winning streak after defeating Erie Community College 1-0 last night in the Region 3 quarterfinals. The Cougars are on to the semifinals this Saturday, where they will meet Tompkins-Cortland Community College at 3pm in Herkimer. The winner advances to the finals on Sunday, with a trip to the NJCAA Tournament on the line. Genesee defeated Tompkins-Cortland earlier this season, 4-1.
Their 16 wins this year ties a school record for most wins in a season (16-2-2 in 2011). The Cougars are seeking their first national championship in men’s soccer in school history.
