Background: GCC History instructor Derek Maxfield delivers a What’s So Great About Lincoln lecture in the Forum of the Batavia Campus as part of the on-going, month-long celebration of our 16th President. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Visitors can also pick up information about the Discover Lincoln Contest, which closes Saturday, October 20, 2012. Also on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the Inspiration Station in the Forum will provide materials to help contestants create or complete their entries perusing through Civil War books and videos as inspiration, and using paper, glue, pens and markers. Period music by the Excelsior Fife and Drum Corps will help the creative process at 12:30 p.m. and the “School of the Solider” at 1:30 p.m. will show battlefield uniforms, weapons and drill lessons—all in the Forum.

The “Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times Exhibit” continues through October 28th in GCC’s library, which was funded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the National Endowment of the Humanities.
