Background: Internationally renowned historian and Abraham Lincoln expert Dr. Eric Foner will present The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery, a lecture based on his 2011 Pulitzer Prize winning book of the same title. The Columbia University professor will be available to sign copies of his book immediately following his presentation.

Dr. Foner’s appearance is part of a month-long celebration of Lincoln at GCC, which includes an exhibit by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and funded by the National Endowment of the Humanities. It features oversized replicas of the President’s personal journals, official documents, photos, and other printed materials. It will be displayed throughout the month of October in the Alfred O’Connell Library.

GCC is also sponsoring a Discover Lincoln contest. Entries are encouraged from all age groups and should address this question: If Abraham Lincoln was running for president today, what would his campaign look/sound like? For entry details, visit:
