Cougars hold Alfred State to three hits

The Genesee Community College baseball pitching staff combined to throw 14 innings and allow just three total hits in a double-header on Sunday against visiting Alfred State.

The Cougars were one out away from a no-hitter in game number one. Jahomy Williams started the game and went three innings, allowed one run on no hits and struck out two. Eric Villalobos pitched the next three innings, allowing no hits while striking out five. Ivan Madafferi retired the first two batters he saw in the seventh, before allowing a walk and surrendering the Pioneers only hit of the game, a single. Madafferi got the next batter to ground out, earning the save in GCC's 4-1 victory.

Sean Sutton scored two runs in the game for GCC, Brandon Collins was 3-3 with two RBI's and a run scored and Zach Ranta went 1-2 with a double and a run scored.

In game two, Ryan DiMartino continued to handle the Alfred State hitters. The Cougars' starter allowed one run on just one hit while striking out two in three innings of work. Ranta, Taheed Foy, Jared Midwick and Collins combined to throw the final four innings, allowing just one run on one hit.
