BATAVIA, NY -- They may be inexperienced, but the enthusiasm and motivation college students bring to a job can help businesses enhance their workforce.
On Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 8:30-9:30am, local business leaders can learn how companies and agencies have benefitted by welcoming college student interns to their staffs. The Genesee Community College Career Development Office and the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) are teaming up to present "Enhance Your Workforce", an informative and open discussion designed to showcase the advantages of utilizing the eagerness and ambition of students and individuals hoping to put their classroom lectures or their unique skills into action in the real world.
The discussion will take place at the City Church Community Center on Center Street in Batavia, and will be led by GCC Career Development Specialist John McGowan and OPWDD job coach Mary Pritchard. They will provide information on the internship program, guide businesses in matching the ideal student or worker candidates with opportunities within their companies and agencies, and outline the variety of supports and resources available to assist with meeting employment goals.
To take part, please RSVP to Don Burkel at (585) 344-0900. The program is sponsored by GCC, the NYS OPWDD, the Batavia Development Corporation, the Batavia Improvement District and Pastor Marty at City Church.
