The Genesee Community College baseball team began the fall conference season with two big wins over rival Monroe Community College on Monday afternoon.
In game one, Ruben Medina got his first win of the fall by pitching all seven innings and allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out seven and walking three.
Offensively, the team belted out 15 hits including a solo homerun from Zack Ranta. Ramon Vega led the hitting attack going 3-3 and scored twice. Shakeel Newton, Brandon Collins, Dre Celestjin and Jean Rodriguez each had two hits. The final score in the first game was 12-5.
In game two, Brandon Stagg pitched a gem allowing just two hits over six innings before turning the game over to Eric Villalobos who faced three batters in the final inning to end the game. Stagg gave up two hits while striking out five and allowed three walks. Sean Sutton led the offensive attack going 3-4 and scored twice. Shakeel Newton, Ramon Vega and Jose Alicea each had two hits. The Cougars ran its conference record to 2-0 beating Monroe Community College in game two, 9-0. In the course of the day, the team scored 21 runs on 28 hits.
The Cougars will continue play next Sunday when they travel to Jamestown Community College. The first pitch will be at 1pm.
