Batavia, New York – As Genesee Community College announces the scholarship recipients for next month’s Genesee Sport and Wellness Experience, college officials are also pleased to publicize an extension of the registration deadline for other students who are interested in the one week program. The Sport and Wellness Experience runs July 23-27, 2012 from 9:00am-4:30pm and takes place at the Batavia Campus. Interested participants now have until Monday, July 9 to register.
The program is geared toward middle school aged-students and offers focused instruction in tennis, soccer and volleyball, as well as a dynamic lineup of contemporary discussion topics that face young people today. An energetic presentation and dialogue about bullying, relationships, alcohol and drug abuse will be part of the program. The $120 fee includes a daily lunch in the College’s Cafeteria, and a program T-shirt. Participants will have full access to GCC’s new athletic facilities including the new turf soccer field, Fitness Center, Anthony B. Zambito Gymnasium and the tennis courts.
The Sport and Wellness Experience scholarship recipients were nominated based on character, initiative and if they demonstrated an interest and appreciation for wellness and sport through effort and academic standing in health and physical education classes and/or participation in an athletic team. The 2012 scholarship recipients and their schools are as follows:

“We are very excited to recognize these outstanding students in our Sport and Wellness Experience this summer,” Rebecca Dziekan, director of Health and Physical Education at Genesee said. “Although we have awarded the scholarships, there is still time and spaces available for the Sport and Wellness Experience. I encourage all area youths to participate in this fun, one-week summer camp.”
