Batavia, NY – Genesee Community College is making it easier and more affordable for high school graduates to get a college education with an extended deadline to apply for Genesee Promise Plus summer study scholarships. Summer session II starts July 2 and continues through August 4, 2012, and the newly-extended deadline to apply for a scholarship is June 27, 2012.
The Genesee Promise Plus scholarship is an outstanding program for high school students to jump-start their college journey. An $840 tuition stipend covers the cost of one or two courses during the second summer session at any of GCC’s seven campus centers in Albion, Arcade, Batavia, Dansville, Lima, Medina and Warsaw. The scholarship is available to 2012 graduates of any high school in the GLOW region (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties.)
“With more than 200 courses to choose from this summer, students can earn an entire semester of college credit while enjoying the beauty of quieter campuses, easier parking, and also studying outside on picnic tables or even at the beach,” Tanya Lane-Martin, assistant dean for Enrollment Services and director of Admissions and Recruitment said. “And it’s important to remember that GCC credits transfer to all SUNY institutions and to most private colleges and universities as well.”
The application form, along with more information about Genesee Promise Plus, is available here: http://www.genesee.edu/gcc/promise/. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees, with the enrolled student responsible for buying any required textbooks. Students who were home-schooled, earned their GED in 2012, and those who attended high school outside of the GLOW region but accumulated GCC college credits through the ACE (Accelerated College Enrollment) program are also eligible to participate in the scholarship program.
Classes offered range from Accounting to Literature to Veterinary Technology. For a complete listing, visit:
