Genesee Community College continues its series of events marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with an encampment on the grounds of the Lima Campus Center
The encampment begins with re-enactors in authentic soldier costumes setting up Union and Confederate camps on Friday evening, and continues through Sunday morning, with an interfaith service lead by the Rev. Gary Hakes, whose sermon will be authentic to the 1860’s.
On Saturday, visitors can tour the camps, learn about battlefield cooking and medical care, hear a lecture on the Underground Railroad, watch a skirmish between the camps, see demonstrations of quilting, knitting and fiber spinning, and listen to the famed Excelsior Fife and Drum band—Skirmishes will get underway at 2:00 pm and hands-on displays of period crafts begin at 3:00pm!
