Batavia, New York - Since 1990, Genesee Community College has been hosting three-times-a-year blood drives for the American Red Cross and those efforts are earning kudos from the emergency assistance agency.

For two days next week, GCC’s Forum will once again be transformed into a blood donation center and the Red Cross will present the College’s blood drive organizers with an award for their years of community service.

The drive, set for Wednesday and Thursday, April 11 & 12, 2012 from 11:00am – 4:00 pm, is open to students and community members. Pre-registration is encouraged at: http://givesblood.org/go.php?bdc=21270, but you can also walk-in during the drive to donate. Donors should be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. You must also present photo ID.

“Each of us can play a crucial role in maintaining our community’s supply of blood, and most donors find that giving blood is a rewarding and satisfying opportunity!” says Joanna Barefoot, GCC’s assistant director of Student Activities.

All GCC donors and volunteers will be eligible for drawings to win bookstore gift cards and all donors will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card to use toward team gear or sporting event tickets.

For more information, contact GCC Student Activities Office via email: SA@genesee.edu.
