Batavia, New York -The Career Services department at Genesee Community College has awarded a Nook eReader to the winner of its resume writing contest, which was part of the spring Job Fair at the Batavia campus this week.

“The key to an effective resume is organization and structure,” said Career Center Coordinator John McGowan. “Lauren Donovan’s winning resume scored highly on all measures, including overall appearance. It was also well-organized, thorough and easy to read.” Ms. Donavan won the Nook, which is an electronic tablet-sized book reader. She is from Nunda, NY and enrolled in the College’s Administrative Assistant program.

The contest was part of the Spring Job Fair in GCC’s Forum this week, which featured close to 40 companies from various industries. About 200 job seekers from the College and the community had the opportunity to distribute resumes and discuss career options, while company representatives shared information and advice.

“Overall, the job vendors were very pleased with the quality and organization of the Job Fair. Several positive comments mentioned the quality of attendees being prepared and dressed for success, with resumes in hand,” said McGowan.
